Become a musician, performer and thinker with a bright future

If music is your talent and your passion, you have to take good care of it, like the best musicians who play the long game. By making it easy for music majors to get double majors, Susquehanna University helps you find innovative ways to forge a successful career.

As a music major you will get one-on-one mentoring in your instrument from teachers who are experienced educators and active performers. Hone leadership skills through conducting and teaching and improve analytical skills by studying music theory and history. Enjoy bright, airy rehearsal and performance facilities. Our magnificent Stretansky Concert Hall is an ideal performance space where you’ll get plenty of stage time.

If you choose to double-major, you can graduate with two majors in four years, giving you a more profound understanding of each field, flexible career opportunities tailored to your interests and a great head start on a life beyond college. For example, the arts administration minor or the business or communications major will prepare you for the business side of music. Pair your music degree with psychology, and you’ll be ideally prepared to pursue graduate study in music therapy.

Whether you major or double-major in music, you’ll be well prepared to enter prestigious graduate schools like the Peabody Institute of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music or Yale University, or into a field related to your second major. Graduates have become teachers, composers, administrators at major venues and professional symphony musicians. Whatever career you pursue, you will have ensured that music will be a vital part of your future.

Heilman Hall

“The B.A. in music is the true differentiator between Susquehanna and other institutions. The ability to double-major was one of the deciding factors that ultimately led me to attend Susquehanna. I looked at many schools that had good business or music programs, but none of them were as strong in both areas, and they didn’t provide the support to double-major successfully.”
