University Closures & Weather Delays
Policy
The safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors is Susquehanna University’s top priority. Recognizing that a decision to disrupt campus operations impacts student instruction, experiential learning and research, Susquehanna seeks to minimize adverse impacts. In rare cases of extraordinarily dangerous weather or other circumstances, the university campus may close for a whole day or part of a day.
When the university is open, all classes will meet, unless the instructor is unable to get to class and all administrative offices will be open. For students approved to live off campus, if conditions make it unsafe for you to travel to campus, use your best judgement to remain safe, make arrangements with your instructor(s) for missed classwork and contact your supervisor regarding your work schedule.
For unscheduled campus closures — including delayed starts and early releases— the university president makes the final decision.
During a closure:
- All classes will be canceled.
- Residence halls will remain open. Dining services will open with possible adjusted hours and offerings.
- All campus events are canceled unless communicated otherwise by the organizing department. Updates will typically be posted to myNest and on the official university calendar of events.
- Services such as the Jacobs Fitness Center and Blough-Weis Library may continue operations or have different hours during a delay or closure.
- Campus Safety, Facilities Management and the switchboard will remain open with only essential services.
- Counseling & Psychological Services support will be available 24/7 at 570-372-4751. For urgent advice, call 1-844-936-1731 to reach the student health or counseling center on-call provider. Call 911 for an emergency.
The university will communicate closures via the following:
- An email and/or text to the university community.
- The home page of the waki-aiai.net website.
- An announcement in myNest and/or SU official social media sites.
